During times of war, media coverage is not only responsible for bringing global attention to conflicts and influencing public perception, but also holds the moral responsibility of facilitating dialogue and reconciliation among the parties involved to seek peaceful resolutions and justice, and pressuring international actors to get involved in peace efforts through which international involvement can provide resources and expertise for peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
Media organizations and professionals are ought to highlight the importance of diplomacy and negotiations as means to resolve conflicts peacefully, and discourage aggressive or militaristic actions by holding stakeholders accountable. Significantly, strategic ethics direct the media toward building understanding and trust among opposing parties and the broader public, in terms of providing the public with the necessary democratic and rights-oriented platform for people to be engaged in informed debates and advocate for accountability and peaceful solutions. More so, the media holds the charge of countering disinformation and fake news which can be used to manipulate public opinion and escalate conflicts, hereby fostering a sense of unity and shared humanity, whilst in conveying the human cost of war and the value of peace.
